PME42S6 Plasma Display Description
Quiet Fanless Operation: This plasma monitor is built without any fans for ultra quiet operations suitable for theater related applications. 3:2 Pull-Down for Film Scan Conversion: Built-in 3:2 pull-down processing can automatically detect and convert film content to properly display with minimal motion artifacts. 3D Comb Filter: Built-in 3D comb filter coverts analog signal into a digital signal for more accurate processing, eliminating cross-color interference for superior NTSC video performance.
Dual HD Component Video Inputs: Two high-definition component video inputs with auto-detection capabilities will automatically synchronize the display to match the incoming signal source without manual intervention.
TV Tuner Option: An optional television tuner module turns this display into a standard TV receiver. Picture-in-Picture: Watch two programs simultaneously using the monitor's picture-in-picture with four selectable window position settings.
Side-by-Side Picture: Watch two programs simultaneously by splitting the screen in half. HDTV Signal Compatible: This monitor is capable of accepting 1080i and 720PHDTV signals via an external HDTV decoder with RGB or Component Video outputs. Digital Zoom Modes: Digital zoom modes gets rid of black bars common to non-16:9 aspect ratio movie content BBE� Sound Maximizer: Built-in sound processor maximizes the sound quality. Sound Processing: Built-in SRS� sound processor simulates surround effects with only two speakers. Selectable Fixed/Variable Audio Outputs: Software selectable fixed or variable audio outputs ensure flexible audio application installations.
Built-in Internal Amplification & Speakers: This display contains an internal 10-watt (5 watts x2) audio amplifier and built-in speakers sufficient for multimedia applications.
Standard DVI Interface: This monitor is equipped with a built-in Digital Visual Interface for direct "digital-to-digital" video connectivity with PC's equipped with a DVI video display adaptor. The DVI interface eliminates the need for digital-to-analog conversion that usually results in signal degradation. 1280x1024 SXGA Support: The onboard digital scaling engine can accept various PC and HDTV signals and digitally map the signals to fit within 852x480 pixels. Compatible signals include PC resolutions up to 1280x1024 and HDTV signals including 720P and 1080i. Discrete Power ON/OFF: Separate Power ON/OFF buttons on the remote control facilitates the recording of IR macros with advanced system setups. Direct Input Selection Keys: Separate input selection keys on the remote control allow quick and easy selection of various inputs.
Bass Extension Circuitry / Subwoofer Out: Enhance bass performance by adding a separate powered subwoofer to the monitor's subwoofer output. RS232 Serial Connection: The RS232 command set includes front panel lock, input selection, volume and other standard RS232 command controls.

This display excedded my expectations. I was very impressed with the overall clarity and picture quality. I would have gladly paid more, but was happy it was such a bargain at the price point the item is in.

The PME-42S6, like most plasma panels, has a high-tech and minimalist look and feel. It sports a thin silver border around its big piece of glass, and it comes with a pair of feet with which it stands on a tabletop. With its 3.7-inch depth, the S6 can be easily wall-mounted, but hardware isn't included.
Some of the more commonly used functions--such as power, input, menu, and volume--appear on the panel's right side. A pair of built-in speakers faces upward on the top rear, so they're invisible when you look at the set head-on. The remote is large for holding in your hand but comprehensive in its functionality. None of the buttons is backlit, and many useful controls are concealed under a sliding door, which makes operation more awkward than necessary.
